Join members of the Upper Roanoke River Roundtable on the first Sunday of each month to pick up trash around the Roanoke River. Locations will vary month to month, but with the same mission; pick up as much trash from entering our river. A small action today can make a difference for years to come. Bags will be provided and we will coordinate on the disposal. All you need to do is bring gloves and join us!
Do you love being outside? Are you fascinated by nature? Are you concerned about the health of your local watershed? Remember how fun it was to play in the creek as a kid? Consider becoming a volunteer stream monitor!
The Roanoke Stormwater Division, Clean Valley Council and the Upper Roanoke River Roundtable have partnered to create a citizen science water monitoring program. Focusing on the health of the Roanoke River and its tributaries, community members will engage in local streams and become part of the solution in achieving clean water. As a volunteer you will monitor streams by taking samples of benthic macroinvertebrates to determine the ecological health for the section of stream that is sampled.
You do not have to be a scientist to be a stream monitor; just be willing to learn and have fun!
